REVIEW // Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm

Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm

Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm

As you all might have known, this lip balm have been very hyped up in the last year or so. Being a lip balm addict, of course I’m very much interested and would really like to try it for myself and see what the hype is all about. Some bloggers had said it healed even the worst chapped lips, while some other claims it’s very good for under lipstick — think of it like a lip primer– especially matte lipstick because although this is a lip balm, this is a matte lip balm. Interesting, huh? I’ve been trying to get my hands on this lip balm, but the easiest way to get it costs too much, making it very expensive because of tax and shipping fee and all that (check out my post about the hunt here). So I had to put my curiosity on hold. I finally got this beautiful jar of lip balm thanks to my friend JJ who went to France for a choir competition and was kind enough to spare some of his time to go to a French Pharmacy and pick this up for me.

I got this back in June, so I think I’ve used it long enough to be able to give a proper review of the product. First impression was that this lip balm is thick, and like I’ve read in numerous beauty blogs, it’s kind of gritty in texture. I was a little worried about the scent, as more often that not I found citrus scent can be overwhelming and reminds me of car perfume. But I’m pleased to find that it has a very nice, very light citrus scent that goes away after a few minutes. As for how this much raved lip balm perform to actually moisturize the lips, I can’t be fully agree with all the rave reviews. I find that when I use it, even if not regularly, I don’t suffer with dry, cracked lips. But, I also don’t find my lips to be as soft as I wanted it to be. However, it really does a very good job as a lip primer. Because this lip balm is fairly matte, it doesn’t interfere much with the texture of the lipstick, and instead give a very nice grip for the lipstick so it doesn’t slide off as easily, adding just a little bit of wear time. All in all, I really enjoy this lip balm for its’ priming properties as not a lot of lip balm can do this.

Have you tried Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm? Do you think it’s woth the hype?

The Everyday Lipstick // MAC See Sheer

MAC Lipstick in Se Sheer

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAYou know when you’re just going out to run errands or just doing something around the block and you don’t want to fuss with your make up but you want to look presentable? On those days, I just slap on sunscreen, powder a little, and put on lipstick to perk up my complexion. Nothing much, really. Even someone who doesn’t like make up would probably think, “yeah I can do that”. Right?

When I’m wearing minimal make up, I don’t want to suddenly wear a bright lipstick. I just think it might look ridiculous when I pair bright lips with panda eyes. I want to wear something that gives me just enough to look alive. MAC See Sheer isn’t exactly a my lips but better kind of color, because when applied heavily it can look kind of reddish on me. But with a very light layer of my trusty lip balm Nuxe reve de miel underneath and a swipe or two of MAC See Sheer, it really brightens up my face! The lip balm is optional though, I just like it because it’s matte so it kind of take down the shine from the lipstick (MAC See Sheer is in Lustre formula, which have quite a shiny/glossy finish).

REVIEW // Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation SPF 15

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation SPF 15

As I’ve mentioned in a recent post, I bought this foundation as a reward for myself for finishing the final paper for my undergraduate studies. It’s definitely a splurge for me, but I’ve been wanting a proper foundation, the one that will match my skin tone (not very easy to achieve with drugstore foundations, really) and have a beautiful finish. When Sephora finally open in Indonesia, I was going to buy the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-H Full Coverage Foundation because I think it will be the perfect foundation for my graduation day as it has a medium to full coverage and claims to have a lightweight feel. But later I found out that Sephora Indonesia have not stocked the brand Tarte. So then I had to look for alternatives.

After reading some reviews, I finally decided I will get the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation SPF 15. I picked this up at the Bobbi Brown counter in Sogo Plaza Senayan. I was matched to the color Beige. At first I thought the color is kind of light for me, so I asked the girl on the counter (what are they called? Beauty Advisors?) to try a shade darker on my other side of the face. After that I said to her I will walk around the mall for a bit and I will come back later if I liked how it look and feel on my skin (and to see whether or not the foundation oxidises on me). My first impression on the formula was that it really is lightweight, it doesn’t feel like anything is put on the skin, and it really is skin-like.

After a while, I decided I really liked it and I was going to buy it. But I still wasn’t sure about the color. I looked up online and turns out the color Beige was quite on the light side. Stupidly, I didn’t ask the color of the darker shade, but I assume it was either Cool Beige (3.25) or Warm Beige (3.5). I keep looking at my pocket mirror (indoor and outdoor) to really have a good look on the shade that matched me best, but I think it wasn’t that much different and my mom keep saying the lighter one (Beige) look much nicer. So in the end, I bought the shade Beige (3).

When I came home that day I can not wait to properly try it on, so I remove all my previously worn make up, wash my face, use my toner, moisturizer, and SPF, and applied the foundation using Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. It’s so easy to blend and have a nice dewy finish. I tried a few layer, but medium coverage is the best this foundation can provide. It’s okay for me because that’s what I expected. The next morning I tried it again, this time I want to test out its longevity so I will use it until evening. Turns out my father had a plan for us all that day so we spent the day walking outdoor under the sun and that was when I can say I was really pleased with this foundation. It withstand a very hot and sweaty day! I do have to point out that I don’t have oily skin, so maybe that helps with the longevity.

I have tried using this foundation with my fingers, which I think give the same natural finish but I end up using more product, so I think I will stick with using my Real Techniques expert face brush. After those two days, I always use this foundation every time I went out to and it’s just.. it’s really, really nice. Money well spent. I’m really happy with this foundation!
