First of all, let me just tell you that matte lipsticks and nude lipsticks are two things I used to avoid. I used to think that matte lipsticks are drying and unforgiving especially on my almost-always-dry-lips. No one likes the look of color on top of dry chapped lips. And nude lipsticks? I’m not the fairest of skintones, and I have quite pigmented lips, so I don’t think nude color works on me. So, what got me trying the matte nude lipsticks? Well, it was my sister.
My sister is a fan of matte lipsticks and the only color she wore is pretty much nudes. Not pasty, very light cream or brown nudes, but the slightly pink or peach nudes, you know what I mean? As sisters, of course we share things and one of them is lipsticks. I first tried hers, MAC Kinda Sexy and NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Stockholm , those colors look fine on me, but I never thought it’s the perfect nude for me. So, I decided to dip into the nude lipstick world, starting from drugstore.
First was Revlon Mauve it Over, one of the classic favorite. It’s been around for a long time and it’s been loved by a lot of people with different kind of skintones. The reason why it’s loved by so many people is because it’s not too brown, it’s slightly mauve as the name suggests. On me, it looks pretty much nude with a slight pink (a lot of lipsticks leans slightly pinker on me). The formulation is brilliant! Not the most pigmented out there, as I can still see the darker line outside my lips, but it’s very moisturizing as a matte lipstick! The application is a dream, even on a dry lips it glides on smoothly without tugging and it doesn’t enhance lip lines too much.
The other one is Tarte Lipsurgence Matte Lip Tint in Exposed. If you follow me on instagram, then you might have seen me posted a picture of the Tarte Lipsurgence Matte Lip Tint in Exposed a last week. I’ve wanted it for quite a while since having the Amazonian Clay Blush in the same color, but never been able to justify buying it because of the price tag (I believe it’s not that expensive in the US but since Tarte is not available locally, the price is quite high here). So, I was so happy when my friends gave it to me for my (late) birthday present! I love so it much! I love that it has a slight minty scent and a little cooling effect when first applied, and it’s very pigmented for a nude! Seriously, this lipstick can make my lips look one color — no dark lip line around the rim of the lips. It’s also very moisturizing for a matte lipstick, although it also means it’s not the longest lasting lipsticks out there. And I don’t know whether or not it’s because the light color, but this lipstick doesn’t not tint or stain the lips after it fades. The color looks quite similar to the Revlon Mauve it Over, but I wouldn’t say it’s a dupe because it might look different on other people. All in all, it’s a very good matte lip color.
I’m happy with these two matte nude lip options, but being the makeup junkie that I am, I’m always open to other recommendation! So, what’s your matte nude lipstick recommendation? Do share in the comments down below!
